It's Time We Talked: Pornography, Young People and Sexuality

Organised by

About this Event

Join Maree Crabbe for this 1.5 day in person training to explore pornography's prevalence, nature and impact on young people, Monday 13 & Tuesday 14 November. Readily available and aggressively marketed online, exposure to hardcore pornography is now mainstream. Porn has become a default sex educator for many young people, with serious implications for their capacity to negotiate free and full consent, for mutual respect, sexual health, and gender equality. Young people need support to navigate this new reality. Pornography is a challenging topic, but it is one we cannot afford to ignore. This training will support participants to analyse pornography’s prevalence, nature and influence, and what we can do to address it. The day will include a combination of verbal presentations, videos from excerpts from interviews with young people, experts and porn industry professionals, large and small group discussions, and activities. Maree Crabbe is Director of the violence prevention initiative, It’s time we talked. She is an educator, author, researcher and filmmaker who is passionate about gender-based violence prevention, and about supporting parents, schools, communities and government to address pornography’s influence on young people.
